Placement Students Prepare to Depart!

They have studied the natural world, now they must study the working one. Students depart for a Year in Professional Practice.

On Friday 12th May the HSS Placements team met our students who are preparing to start their Year in Professional Practice in the 2023-2024 academic year.

This year we have an exciting variety of placements ranging from working with the Natural Environment Research Council Environment Omics Facility in Sheffield, consulting firm Concentric, data collecting with the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust and working with the primate and cat sections with the Aspinall Foundation.

Dr Dave Roberts (Year in Professional Practice Module Convenor) discussed what the students needed to do before and during their placement year and also the support available from the University whilst the students are away. Nikki Martin from the University’s Careers and Employability Service discussed what students needed to do to get the most out of their placement experiences and to consider what skills they will develop which will be transferable for their future careers.

We wish all our placement students the very best for their year out and can’t wait to hear more about their experiences.
