The BioBlitz is Back With a BANG!

On Saturday 20th May 2023 08:00-21:30, the School of Anthropology and Conservation are hosting their third BioBlitz event on campus. Join our experts on surveys, browse the stalls, watch presentations on conservation projects and take part in the workshops at the BioBlitz 2023.

‘I’m really looking forward to this year’s BioBlitz! I’ve been to both BioBlitz events previously and have absolutely loved them every time.’ Lewis Smith, this year’s Partnerships officer told us.

‘It takes all the best parts of conservation and squeezes them into one day!’ Lewis Smith

‘There are surveys and activities for everyone, even if you’ve never done it before. The best part is getting to meet lots of people interested in nature and finding out about all the wildlife on our campus after everyone’s hard work.’

What is a BioBlitz?

A ‘BioBlitz’ is an intensive day of surveying the biodiversity on the University of Kent’s campus and is a student-led initiative to engage the public. This is a FREE event, and everyone is welcome! We are hoping for a lot of attendees from students, scientists, staff, teachers, families and local residents.

What’s On?

There will be a variety of small mammal and insect surveys conducted throughout the day – as well as activities such as pond dipping. There will also be a variety of charity stalls, a raffle, and face painting. More information about the different activities will be published later. In addition to this, there will also be opportunities for volunteering, to help assist/run surveys as well as other activities – recruitment will start soon.

I’m really looking forward to seeing which species we find, and hopefully learning more about our campus wildlife! -Sam, Data Officer

BioBlitz will take place on Saturday 20th May, 08:00-18:00.
