Professor Jim Groombridge and Dr Simon Black publish new book

Species Conservation: Lessons from Islands, edited by Jim Groombridge, Simon Black, Jamieson Copsey and Carl Jones, has been published by Cambridge University Press featuring research from DICE members Charlie Gardner and Debbie Fogell.

The book is a culmination of lessons learnt from visiting a great many island-species based conservation projects on islands worldwide. The co-editors and many of the contributors have been involved in a series of short courses that have each been delivered on a different island, aimed at local and regional practitioners who work on species conservation projects on islands. The conservation organisation Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust has led these courses with contributions from a variety of other organisations including DICE. The courses have been delivered in: Jersey, St. Lucia, Guam, Fiji, Galapagos, Mauritius, Seychelles and other islands. These conservation training ‘road shows’ have allowed the editors of this book to see first hand that many of the challenges faced by conservation projects on one island are commonly experienced by other island nations. The book attempts to collate some of the shared experiences, challenges and solutions.
