The School of Anthropology & Conservation is delighted to host a film screening of Active Citizen: Recycling followed by a Q & A with its director, Dr Jan Lorenz.
An intimate look at the life and work of a Roma refugee from Kosovo collecting trash on the streets of Novi Sad, Active Citizen: Re-cycling is a chapter of a collaborative project by Piotr Goldstein, a social researcher from the University of Manchester, and Jan Lorenz, a social and visual anthropologist based at the Adam Mickiewicz University. The video project is focused on the material, sensorial and kinaesthetic realities of the protagonist’s work and its political and social significance — the daily activism beyond the scope of public recognition.

Jan Lorenz is an anthropologist and filmmaker working at the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań , Poland. He has done research on social belonging, religious conversion, ethics and xenophobia as well as personal and collective projects of transformation, particularly in the context of contemporary Polish-Jewish experiences. He is currently involved in individual research on sensory media art as a form of representation and its potential for anthropology, and a collaborative film project on the social activism of migrants and marginalised minorities.
