The School of Anthropology & Conservation is delighted to welcome Dr Eduardo Garcia-Frapolli from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, who is visiting us until August of next year. Whilst he is here, Eduardo will be working with Dr Bob Smith, doing research on understanding conservation conflicts as a mechanism to improve the governance of protected areas.
Much of Eduardo’s research is related to economic and social aspects of natural resource management and conservation. Most of his projects have been developed in Yucatec Maya communities from the Yucatan peninsula, although he has also been doing research on other regions of Mexico, like the coast of Jalisco and Michoacán. One of Dr Garcia-Frapolli’s main interests is to research how national public conservation policies (such as protected areas or payment for environmental services) are interrelated with local community conservation and natural resource management initiatives.
