Fast track the impact of your research – Professor Reed seminar

Research Services are delighted to offer an additional Grants Factory session this term on how to fast track the impact of your research, led by Professor Mark Reed of Birmingham City University. Professor Reed is a recognized international expert in impact research with >100 publications. He has won awards for both the impact of his research, and for his work as the research manager of an international conservation charity.

The session will give you everything you need to generate impacts from your research. You will leave with practical tools you can use immediately in your research, no matter what discipline or where you are in the research cycle. The training is based on the latest research evidence (including by Professor Reed) and takes a unique relational approach to deliver wide-reaching and lasting impacts. You will gain powerful new insights and skills that you can apply across all areas of your life. Key points covered in the training include:

  • Evidence-based principles for delivering impact from research
  • Inspiring case studies from the trainer and colleagues that will encourage you to think out of the box and approach impact in new ways
  • Critical discussion of pathways to impact (pre-award), impact plans (during award) and impact case-studies (post-award) to extract good practice lessons
  • Easy and quick-to-use templates to:
    • Identify beneficiaries of your research and other stakeholders who may be positively or negatively affected by your work, and how they may facilitate or block your impact
    • Create a powerful impact plan that will guarantee your research makes a difference

After the workshop, you are invited to join a closed Facebook group for trainees and sign up to a 5 step challenge (over 10 weeks) that will give you the confidence you need to embed the lessons from the workshop in your research. These post-workshop sessions are run by Professor Reed, who is available to all trainees (whether they join the challenge or not) to support them on their impact journey.

The session will take place on Friday 4th December in Darwin Board Room, between 09:00 and 13:00. It is free and open to all, and refreshments will be provided. However, places are limited and allocated on a first come first served basis so do let Phil Ward, Deputy Director of Research Services, if you would like to come along.
