Students & Staff Nominated for Awards

It’s been an exciting day in SAC with people being nominated for awards!

PhD Student Justyna Miszkiewicz has been nominated for a Teaching Award in the category “Postgraduates who teach”. Justyna has earned this nomination through her work with BSc students who’s comments include: “She is always willing to give more and her attitude towards anthropology inspires me”; “Justyna has been the lab demonstrator in my modules for both Osteology and Palaeopathology. She is funny, supportive and passionate about the topic”; “Fantastic lesson plans, and of great help to new postgrads”.

SAC Anthropologist, Dr Mike Poltorak has been shortlisted for a Teaching Award in the category “Fantastic Feedback”. Mike was shortlisted due to the wonderful comments made by the students who nominated him: “Mikes seminars are the best I have ever attended. He ensures everyone is involved and creates pathways for students who do not always want to speak to feel comfortable in discussion”; “Work marked by Mike is always returned very promptly and is full of constructive feed back”.

There were 726 individuals nominated for awards and only 3 have been shortlisted for each category – so Justyna and Mike have done AMAZINGLY! The winners will be announced on 16th May!

PhD student Amber Abrams has been shortlisted for the 2013 Chancellor’s prize. 23 students were nominated and Amber has been shortlisted to the final three!  Amber has been invited to attend the Employability Points Rewards Ceremony on 31st May where the Chancellor will announce the final winner.

Students were nominated for this prize for their outstanding engagement in University initiatives.  Amber was nominated by a number of SAC staff due to her spearheading of a Postgraduate and Staff reading group, involvement in School events and seminars, excellent teaching and engagement with Undergraduate students, and rugby coaching – all whilst progressing wonderfully with her PhD studies.

We are very proud of Justyna, Mike and Amber; congratulations to you all.
