Simon Black contributes to new BBC series, Nature's Miracle Babies

Today, 2nd September, the In Pictures feature on the BBC website highlights a new series ‘Nature’s Miracle Babies’.  The series focuses on a number of facilities which specialise in safeguarding the future of some of the world’s rarest species.

The programme on the 11th September includes the breeding programme for Barbary lions initiated by Simon Black’s development of the European Studbook. Simon was delighted to be able to contributed to the programme but sadly doesn’t feature.

The programme also highlights work undertaken by Port Lympe Wild Animal Park with whom we have close association, in collaboration with Belfast Zoo who were also directly involved with Simon’s work. Transfers of lions around European zoos to form new breeding pairs have been directly initated by the outcomes of this research.

The show airs: 18.30 – 19.30, BBC1, 11th September. For further details visit their website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b014gsw7
