Benvenuti a Roma!

st. peter's

In preparation for the first day of term students have been arriving in Rome this week and the Italian capital has greeted them with sunny skies and mild temperatures.  All the students have chosen to live in independent accommodation and are currently settling in to their new homes in various districts of Rome including Trastevere, Monteverde and San Giovanni.  Now that all the practical details of acquiring visas, securing accommodation, and making travel plans are behind them it’s time to enjoy all of the wondrous opportunities the city has to offer, from amazing food to all the galleries, museums, churches, and archaeological sites.

Professors Tom Henry and Ray Laurence will be in Rome for orientation week and have organised a packed schedule to prepare the students for their term in Rome.  The American University, who host the University of Kent in Rome MA programmes, will ensure Kent students have all of the support they need through student life and IT orientations.  The students will have inductions at some of the foreign institutes in Rome including the American Academy and the Norwegian Institute.  These extensive and specialised libraries will be invaluable to the students’ research in the coming months.  Three half-days of site visits will take the students through the Roman Forum, the Palatine Hill, the Campus Martius, and along the Aurelian Walls guided by Professors Ray Laurence and Jan Gadeyne, of Temple University, Rome.  Orientation week has been carefully designed to prepare students for the challenges of living in a foreign country and to provide the necessary support and resources to thrive academically during the term in Rome.   It should be a fantastic week!
