At Kent, we are backing the UK’s ambition to lead a net-zero emissions and hydrogen future.
We recognise that as an anchor institution for research and innovation in the South East, we have an important play in the race to net zero. That’s why we’re reaching out and partnering with organisations locally and nationally to solve challenges in both:
- Supply chain governance, sustainability and resilience
- Road and maritime transport
The Kent Business School Department for Analytics, Operations and Systems offers world class education and conducts internationally leading research in operational research, data analytics, operations management, information systems and sustainability. We are currently:
- A joint investigator in a techno-economic feasibility study of hydrogen-fuelled freight transport, (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council)
- Partnering on the Land, Sea and Port Integration of the Thames as a Smart Hydrogen Highway project (funded by MarRI-UK & Port of London Authority) with the University of Birmingham, University of Strathclyde, Air Products and the Health and Safety Executive
- About to start a Department for Transport funded project to assess UK France Green Corridors in Partnership with the Port of Dover, DFDS, P&O Ferries, Warwick Manufacturing Group, Schneider Electric, SSE
- Supervising a Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Port of Dover on the layout of the Eastern Docks
- Working with Kent Resilience Forum, KCC, National Highways and others
By collaborating on these projects, cultivating knowledge exchange and leading the region on its path to net zero, we aspire to:
- Explore all aspects of the Hydrogen Fuel Supply Chain (HFSC) from governance, production and storage to transportation and distribution
- Build prototype HFSC models based on mathematical programming and optimisation to assess different pathways, policies, and technology-driven scenarios over short, medium and long-term horizons
- Establish a national hydrogen highway network, integrating land, sea and port
- Green transport, airports & ports
- Integrated and optimised energy solutions
- Forefront of Biotechnology Development for Future Hydrogen generation
- Future materials & sensors for storage and safety.
