A foundation course that can prepare a student to become a healthcare professional

Agni Bibo explains why the Medway School of Pharmacy was her first choice of place to study.

Theory intertwined with practice

The pharmaceutical field was always of interest to Agni. When her life took a different turn, she put her studies aside to raise her family. After moving to London and finding a job at a community pharmacy, her love of pharmacy was awakened again, and she decided now was the time to look for pharmacy courses to study.

The convenient location of the Medway Campus and the strong reputation of the Medway School of Pharmacy made the School the perfect choice. Agni is studying the Pharmacy, MPharm with Foundation Year degree, which comes with an integrated Master’s degree and a foundation year. The foundation year is designed to prepare students for study at a higher level. For Agni, this meant she was able to gather the basis of knowledge in pharmacy and professional skills she needed to commence her degree programme. Entry requirements for degrees with a foundation year are typically lower.

Agni explains that her studies are focused on medicines affecting the body and person-centred care. In Year 1, she studied modules including physiology and pharmacology and cell biology and biochemistry. A module introducing professional skills, law and ethics was essential for her to learn more about the role of the pharmacist in community and hospital settings. Meanwhile, Year 2 is split into three modules centred around medicines and disease. Agni explains she will have a wealth of knowledge upon completion of her course in pharmaceutics, biosciences, pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacokinetics, drug delivery, non-drug therapies, chemistry and professional practice.

“Theory intertwined with practice are the two important keys of the MPharm course, which prepares students to become healthcare professionals and perform to the best of their best abilities.”

High quality of teaching and research

Agni says she has found herself exactly where she wanted to be. She adds that her lecturers have been engaged and passionate, supporting herself and her peers to achieve, which has helped build her confidence throughout her studies.

She has enjoyed every aspect of both lectures and practical work, which has included learning about clinical scenarios and laboratory practices. Dispensing classes have involved learning how to interact with patients when providing medicines, advice and other services   in a lawful and ethical manner. Meanwhile, lab practice has been focused on the preparation of medicines and how different factors can affect formulation and stability.

“The University of Greenwich provides students from all the world with a high quality of teaching, excellence in research and great accommodation for students who choose to live on campus.”

MSP is the first choice for Pharmacy

The Medway School of Pharmacy was Agni’s first choice of place to study, and she is proud to have made the decision that now was the right time for her to embark upon a degree programme in the subject she loves.

She hopes to become an independent prescriber after graduating from her course, being responsible for the assessment of patient conditions and making decisions about prescriptions and advice.
