Political Leadership
Looking beyond leadership in business contexts, we have been particularly interested in what makes a good political leader and the comparisons we can make between organisational and political leadership.
In this strand of our research we are interested in what a ‘good political leader’ is. Is it someone who receives a high number of votes? Successfully develops policy or passes bills? Wins debates? or is empathetic with constituents? Our approach has been to examine political roles and a variety of outcomes to understand which knowledge, skills and abilities are required to perform political roles effectively.
Taking a psychological perspective we are interested in how personality traits, intelligence and other characteristics influence political leadership. We are also keen to understand how political leaders may be developed to enhance their effectiveness.
This research stream is conducted by Dr Madeleine Wyatt in collaboration with Professor Jo Silvester at University of Exeter and Dr Elena Doldor at Queen Mary University of London
