“One size does not fit all: Dispelling 10 common myths about grief” is a workshop for any member of staff with an interest in finding out more about the impact that grief can have on an individual and their family and friends. Perhaps you have personal experience of grief, or maybe you are currently supporting a bereaved family member. Conversely, you may never have experienced bereavement and feel anxious about doing or saying the ‘right’ thing to a friend or colleague who you want to support.
Developed by Dr Lucy Poxon, a Counselling Psychologist based in the counselling team on campus at Keynes college, this workshop takes a this workshop takes a fresh look at the implicit rules embedded in our cultural norms that tend to direct our thoughts, feelings and behaviours when experiencing significant emotional distress such as grieving. Lucy will present recently published grief research that challenges traditional ideas on grieving and will bring this workshop to life by drawing from her own doctoral research presenting the lived experiences of grieving individuals.
