In December 2018, Marisa was invited to share her research expertise on gender and police leadership with the National Institute of Justice Research (NIJ) Summit on Women in Policing, Office of Justice Programs US Department of Justice, Washington, DC.
The NIJ is the research, development and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice. They are dedicated to improving knowledge and understanding of crime and justice issues through science. The NIJ provide objective and independent knowledge and tools to inform the decision-making of the criminal and juvenile justice communities to reduce crime and advance justice, particularly at the state and local levels.
The summit brought together international academics working in the field with US police chiefs to discuss the ongoing barriers within policing for women and to map possible ways forward.
