The GCDC hosted its inaugural Early Career Research Training School in collaboration with the GCRF COMPASS project from 2-6 July 2019. The event brought together Master’s, PhDs and ECRs from around the world for five days of intensive training, networking and feedback on their research. The training school took place in the Graduate School and followed on from Kent’s annual GCRF Conference entitled, ‘Building Resilience’, from 30 June – 2 July in the Templeman Library (which training school participants were invited to attend).
The GCDC offered a limited number of travel bursaries for participants travelling from DAC-list countries, and the 25 attendees came from a diverse range of countries and research backgrounds.
The event was a marvellous success, mainly due to the engagement of the participants in presenting their research and receiving constructive feedback, their willingness to engage with the research of their peers, and their eager and open approach to the networking and training opportunities provided throughout the week.
‘This event was excellent in sharing diverse ideas from different disciplines’.
