On 17th October, our newly formed Finance Training Working Group (FTWG) held a pilot event with an aim of improving communications and helping develop improved Finance training across the University.
This first session was aimed at colleagues across the University who are involved in day to day, transactional finance processing with the intention of identifying specific training needs in these more operational areas.
With representation from each section of the Finance Department, we offered a forum for colleagues to discuss any specific issues or queries that they have in undertaking their roles and provided the opportunity for feedback and discussion of the ways in which central Finance provides support. Through Procurement, we also had Key Travel, our new travel supplier, attend the event.
General feedback gained on the day and after the event was that this was very well received and a great opportunity to meet colleagues and one of our key suppliers face to face. We also gained useful feedback on some of the plans of the FTWG which we will be putting into action and updating on in due course.
As a department we aim to hold more of these sessions in the future, at least once a year, and with a widened invite as a way of meeting and communicating with all colleagues holding finance responsibilities.
