The School of English is hosting a lecture and drinks reception as part of the University of Kent’s 50th Festival on Saturday 5 September.
Rod Edmond, Emeritus Professor of English, will be giving a paper entitled ‘”On Margate Sands …”: Writers and Painters in Thanet’ at 2pm in Rutherford Lecture Theatre 1. The event will be followed by a drinks reception in the Rutherford Cameron Gardens. All are welcome.
The lecture and reception also form part of the School of English’s own 50th celebrations. The Festival of English, which has been running throughout 2015, has already seen a whole host of literary events including a performance of the opera Tokaido Road, written by Senior Creative Writing Lecturer Nancy Gaffield, and lectures on Chaucer, Marlowe and Austen which formed part of an open lecture series highlighting Canterbury and Kent’s prominent literary figures. The final events of the Festival include a ‘read-a-thon’ taking place at venues around Canterbury and lectures on Dickens and Woolf. All Festival of English events are free and open to all.
