The School of English has risen 7 places to be ranked 12th in the country (out of 102 departments) in the Guardian University Guide 2014. The ranking, combined with an impressive 95% student satisfaction rate in the 2012 National Student Survey, has confirmed the school’s position as one of the UK’s leading English departments. The Guardian subject tables rank departments on a variety of factors including student satisfaction rates, employability scores and student to staff ratios. The Guardian is one of the only league tables that places student satisfaction and experience at the heart of its scoring and it is the diversity and strength of the academic programme, coupled with a commitment to the student community, which has enabled the department to thrive.
Professor Peter Brown, Head of the School of English, commented:
“English at Kent is getting better all the time: we have recently appointed many new staff and have focused on improving our sense of community. Students feel challenged, but at home, and we enjoy teaching them.”
