The San Francisco Renaissance

On 31 May and 1 June, the Centre for Modern Poetry  will be hosting a weekend discussion of one of the major avant-garde poetry movements of the twentieth century, The San Francisco Renaissance. Scholarly experts and poets in the field will be leading discussions on a number of poets and issues associated with the post-war movement.

Dr Ben Hickman, Lecturer in Modern Poetry and conference organiser, commented:

“It’s a pleasure to acknowledge the resurgence of interest in this crucial movement in modern poetry with such interesting experts, some of whom were directly involved on the West Coast. San Francisco writers are especially under-read in the UK, so it’s great to be exposing them to Kent students, visitors for the event, and the general public, in what should be a series of vibrant discussions and readings.”

On the Friday night there will also be an evening of reading and recitation, including some of the schools own published poets, at the Veg Box Cafe  from 8 o’clock.
