The School of English recently held it’s first annual Employability Fair which aimed to provide students with information about:
- activities they could get involved in whilst studying to make them stand out from the crowd after completing their degree, such as volunteering, Employability Points and the English Student Ambassador Scheme
- possible career paths with an English degree, such as teaching, journalism and teaching English as a foreign language
- Postgraduate study in the School of English
- Careers advice from the from the Careers and Employability Service, in the form of careers advice drop-in sessions and a CV helpdes
The fair consisted of a number of stands with representatives from each of these areas to provide students with expert advice. We also had four English Alumni talking to students about their career paths and explaining what they had done after obtaining an English degree from Kent and how it lead to their various jobs. Although the fair was designed for English students, a lot of the stands provided information relevant for any students studying humanities degrees and we had both a high turnout of English students and students from other subject areas. There was a constant stream of people, despite the horrible weather on the day!
Thank you to all of those who attended and many thanks also to the staff involved in making the event a success.
