Entangled Modernities conference

Registration is now open for Entangled Modernities: New Directions in Settler Colonial and Critical Indigenous Studies, which will take place online from Friday 11 September to Saturday 12 September 2020.

The conference has been organised by Dr Lara Atkin, Lecturer in Victorian Literature, Dr Michael Falk, Lecturer in Eighteenth-Century Studies, Professor Porscha Fermanis, University College Dublin, and Professor David Stirrup, Professor of American Literature and Indigenous Studies. Entangled Modernities a collaboration between the Centre for Indigenous and Settler Colonial Studies, University of Kent and the ERC Southem project at University College Dublin, and is supported by the European Research Council, the Division of Arts and Humanities at Kent, and Western Sydney University.

Entangled Modernities will bring scholars and activists working in Critical Indigenous Studies and Settler Colonial Studies into closer dialogue with those working in the fields of transnational American Studies and Global Victorian and Romantic Studies. It aims to produce new research collaborations and methodologies for critically examining the complex cultural entanglements between the various European and non-European cultures operating under the conditions of colonisation during the eighteenth and nineteenth-centuries. The Keynote speaker will be Dr Alice Te Punga Somerville, University of Waikato.
