The School of English is in the top ten of English departments, according to the new, 2012 National Student Survey. It also gained a 95% score for student satisfaction.
Professor Peter Brown, Head of School, commented: ‘Last year we were 28th. This year we are 9th. That represents a tremendous team effort by teaching and support staff.’ He believes that students have given the thumbs up to new initiatives such as one-to-one essay feedback, a new curriculum, and a weekly student forum.
The annual NSS survey, commissioned by the Higher Education Funding Council, is supported by the National Union of Students and administered by the independent research agency, Ipsos MORI. It is based on student perceptions of teaching assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources and personal development.
