Transatlantic Aliens: Modernism, Exile and Culture in Midcentury, a new book by School of English lecturer Dr Will Norman, is to be published this month by Johns Hopkins University Press. In his book, he addresses the question of what happened to modernism after World War Two through a transatlantic frame, examining how a series of European writers, artists and intellectuals engaged with the U.S. culture industry between 1930 and 1960.
Talking about Transatlantic Aliens in this blog for John Hopkins University Press, ‘Alien Invasion! National Culture in Peril! Fifth Column Plot Uncovered!’, he highlights the book’s relevance in light of recent cultural and political developments in the UK, Europe and the United States. Dr Norman will also be discussing the book at the School of English Research Seminar on Wednesday 7th December, 4pm in Darwin Lecture Theatre 3, with Dr Michael Collins (Kent) and Professor Martin Halliwell (Leicester).
Dr Will Norman is Senior Lecturer in American Literature at the University of Kent; Transatlantic Aliens: Modernism, Exile and Culture in Midcentury will be released on 27th November 2016.
