The Centre for Creative Writing at the School of English is pleased to be co-hosting the Canterbury Festival Poet of the Year competition for 2019.
The awards ceremony will take place on the 4th October at the Gulbenkian Theatre and our own Dorothy Lehane and Kat Peddie will be two of the judges of this year’s entries.
All poems entered are registered at the Festival Office and then sent in anonymous form to the Judges. From these around 35 poems will be chosen for the long list and are published in an anthology, copies of which will be available from the Festival.
A shortlist of poems is then selected and the poets invited to read them at the Awards Evening on 4 October in the Colyer-Fergusson Hall, University of Kent. From these the winners are chosen.
Prizes include £200 for the winner, £100 for second and £50 for third places, £25 for the People’s Choice and the Best-Read Poem receives a bottle of sparkling wine courtesy of Wine Underground.
The Competition deadline is Monday 17 June 2019. The fee for entry is £5 per poem, and please don’t forget to attach an Entry Form. Please see Terms and Conditions.
