Do you have a keen eye for detail and a passion for accuracy? Would you like to work from home on an ad-hoc basis? Jobshop provides a proof reading service to under-graduates and post-graduates. We are currently recruiting for a pool of experienced Proof Readers to pick up ad-hoc work throughout the holidays and over the next academic year. You must be a registered student for the upcoming academic year 2018 – 2019.
Your job will be to –
- Read through an entire piece of work (essay or dissertation)
- Tune in to the fine detail – look for typos and grammatical mistakes, missing words and so on
- Check grammar and make grammatical changes only (changes to be shown in the margin using MS Word track changes)
- Check for flow and sentences make sense
- Check English
- Check the layout and format of paragraphs and headings
- Check references – make sure everyone referenced in the text is in the references section (you are not expected to know the format as this changes from faculty to faculty)
Proof readers will not –
- Edit work e.g. delete text
- Re-write sentences or paragraphs
- Re-name an essay /dissertation
- Check or give an opinion on an argument or theory
- Write any part of an essay or dissertation
Skills and Experience required –
- English as a first language
- Excellent English language and grammar skills
- Post graduate with an English degree/ similar qualification would be an advantage
- Able to work independently and to deadlines
- Good attention to detail and able to concentrate for long periods of time
- Some similar experience of proof reading long or complex texts
