Panel discussion: The Politics of Comics (ICA, 16 June)

16 June, 6.30pm start

ICA studio

Tickets: £3.00/£5.00

This panel discussion, chaired by Dr. Juha Virtanen, explores how the graphic novel, comic strip or visual novel intervenes in and engages with contemporary social issues. Loosely responding to the current exhibition Frans Masereel: The City, the event will reflect on the legacy of the ‘wordless novel’ and the political force of comics today. The speakers will discuss how their practice tackles issues related to housing, feminism, media and political influence, migration, racism and asylum. How do comics negotiate the space between oral history, science fiction and documentation?

Speakers include Hannah Berry, Emma Saville and Grace Wilson.”
