Abdulrazak Gurnah at the Whitstable Literary Festival

Sunday 14 May, Whitstable Castle

11am-12pm, £6

Booker shortlister Abdulrazak Gurnah talks to Jeremey Scott about his new novel Gravel Heart. Moving from revolutionary Zanzibar in the 1960s to restless London in the 1990s, it evokes the immigrant experience with unsentimental precision and insight and is an affecting story of isolation, identity, belonging and betrayal.

Abdulrazak Gurnah was born in Zanzibar and teaches at the University of Kent. He is the author of seven novels including Paradise (shortlisted for the Booker and Whitbread prizes), By the Sea (longlisted for the Booker Prize) and Desertion (shortlisted for the Commonwealth Prize). Further details are available on the WhitLit Festival website.
