The School of English Summer Skills project

The School of English is running a Summer Skills Project for the first time this year. This project is aimed at final year undergraduate and Master’s students (although second year students are also very welcome) and has been designed to give you some of the necessary skills to kick-start your career after university.

The conference will take place all day on Thursday 1st and the morning of Friday 2nd June at the Ann Robertson conference centre in Canterbury (London Road). It is free to attend and will include all refreshments.
The two-day conference will include the following sessions:

Session 1: Self-reflection with Ryan Perry, School of English Employability Officer. A series of exercises to enable you as a graduate to articulate the skills you have developed as a student.

Session 2: CV Workshop with Helen Johnson, Careers and Employability. How to construct your CV and search for graduate employment.

Session 3: Presentation Skills. Learning the necessary skills and giving you the confidence to present at interviews.

Following these sessions on the first day you will then be encouraged to give a brief presentation on the second day followed by a mock interview. You will receive written feedback on the second day’s events.

If you would like to participate in the Summer Skills Project 2017 please email EnglishEvents@kent.ac.uk with your full name, student ID and any dietary requirements by Friday 19th May 2017. Spaces are limited and will be given on a first come first served basis. If you have any questions about the project please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We hope that you will take advantage of this excellent opportunity to develop important skills in a supportive environment.
