The School of English achieved an exceptionally high overall satisfaction rate of 95% in the National Student Survey 2016, the results of which were announced last week. The School is now ranked 14th out of 101 departments in the UK.
Commissioned by the Higher Education Council the annual survey asks all final year undergraduate students to rank their student experience. Questions on the survey range from the content of the course to the quality of the teaching. In addition to receiving an exceptional overall satisfaction score the students surveyed also gave excellent marks to a variety of questions, particularly in areas of teaching and academic support.
The School of English ranks consistently highly in national leagues tables and this recent survey result confirms the School’s position as one of the leading departments in the country. Graduate prospects have also increased by 5% placing the School 15th in the UK according to the Good University Guide 2016.
Professor David Herd, Head of the School of English, welcomed the survey results. He said:
‘We are delighted that our students value their time with us so highly. We think very carefully about how we teach and so it is extremely rewarding to find that our students leave with such a positive sense of their experience in the School. What we look to develop, as teachers of literature, is the ability to think critically and creatively about the world. For us, it is an exciting process and we are very glad our students experience it as such.’
