Scarlett Thomas (Reader in Creative Writing in the School of English) published her most recent novel, The Seed Collectors, with Canongate earlier this month. The novel, which is described as ‘a complex and fiercely contemporary tale of inheritance, enlightenment, life, death, desire and family trees’, has been warmly received by the national press. Neil Gaiman described the novel as “entrancing”, “sharply observed” and “one of the sharpest fantasies” he has encountered, whilst Peter Carty, writing in The Independent, commented that the novel “fizzes with ideas and insights.”
Scarlett teaches on undergraduate and postgraduate creative writing modules in the School of English and supervises a number of PhD projects, all of which are novels. Other recent publications include Monkeys with Typewriters, Our Tragic Universe and The End of Mr. Y.
Scarlett will be appearing alongside fellow novelist Reif Larsen at the Edinburgh International Book Festival on Friday 28 August 2015.
