The School of English and the Centre for Creative Writing are delighted to announce that they will be sponsoring the Canterbury Festival Poet of the Year 2015.
The competition is now firmly established and highly regarded in the poetry world. Last year there were 172 entries from as far afield as Australia. The quality and diversity were extremely high and the judges had great difficulty in choosing a longlist of 36 poems and then a shortlist of 14 from which the Poet of the Year was chosen.
Prizes details are as follows:
- Winner of the University of Kent Prize and Poet of the Year: £200.00
- Second Prize: £100.00
- Third Prize: £50.00
- Peoples’ Choice: £25.00
Poet of the Year 2014 was John Baylis Post from County Cork with his poem Hengest: Fragments. As the reigning bard John will be one of the judges for the 2015 Competition along with Luigi Marchini (Chair of SaveAs Writers Group) and Sonia Overall (Lecturer in Creative Writing at Canterbury Christ Church University).

The winner will be announced at an awards evening on 8 October 2015 in the Gulbenkian Theatre.
