The School of English climbed five places in this years’ Guardian University League Table (2016) placing us 8th out of 106 departments in the UK. This outstanding result, combined with the School’s Research Excellence Framework results just before Christmas (where the School is ranked 10th out of 89 English Departments in terms of Research Intensity), has confirmed the School’s position as one of the UK’s leading English and Creative Writing departments. The Guardian subject tables rank departments on a variety of factors including student satisfaction rates, employability scores and student to staff ratios. The University of Kent as a whole now ranks 16th in the UK.
Professor David Herd, Head of the School of English, commented: ‘This is an excellent result for the School of English at Kent. Combined with our strong showing in the Research Excellence Framework, this ranking in the Guardian League Table confirms that the School is an exciting and supportive place to study English. I am very pleased for all colleagues that our commitment and hard work on behalf of students has been recognised in this way.’
