Sounds New Poetry

Internationally acclaimed poets, including those from the School of English, will feature in this year’s Sounds New Poetry Festival.

Jointly organised by the University’s centres for Modern Poetry and Creative Writing, Sounds New Poetry is an annual collaboration with the long-established Sounds New contemporary music festival.

Launching on Friday 2 May, and featuring 14 events over seven days, Sounds New Poetry will welcome leading poets who will write new poetry inspired by the history and environment of Canterbury.

The festival also provides visitors with the opportunity to hear poetry performances inspired by prominent local sites, such as Eastbridge Hospital, the Roman Museum, and St. Thomas’ Church. Evening readings will see poets working alongside musicians in collaboration with Canterbury’s prize-winning Free Range performance series.

The festival will take place at various locations across Canterbury and will also give audiences the chance to speak to poets and hear their work in person at a series of public residencies held at the Beaney Museum.
