Dr Vybarr Cregan-Reid’s article, ‘Running: the top five reasons to keep going’, published in the Guardian last week (Thursday 16 January) has struck a chord with many people hoping to get fitter and healthier in 2014. The article reached over 5,500 Facebook shares on the first day and has now been read over a 100,000 times. Research has shown that ‘as many as 50% of newcomers to running will give up in their first couple of months’ and the article gives helpful advice to newcomers hoping make the activity a regular habit.
