Wise Words Festival 2013: this week!

This week sees the start of the Wise Words Festival 2013, running from Thursday 12 –Sunday 16 September, taking place in and around the City of Canterbury. The second year of this local festival welcomes a selection of national artists, writers and performers, several of whom are based at the University of Kent.

There is a huge range of inspiring events on offer, including a fascinating workshop on ‘journey’ (Saturday morning) by our own renowned poet Nancy Gaffield, another Kent tutor and wonderful poet Dorothy LeHane performing with Richard Navarro (Sunday evening), and former Canterbury Laureates Patricia Debney and Sarah Salway who will be reading and talking about their work (Saturday midday).

Other events include: Andrew Motion leading a workshop, Patrick Cockburn on Syria, FREE RANGE with Kelvin Corcoran and Jack Hues! Some events are free and some are ticketed. For a full list of events, times and prices please visit http://www.wisewordsfestival.co.uk/.

Senior Lecturer at Kent and former Canterbury Laureate Patricia Debney devised the foundations of the Festival through the development of the Wise Words intergenerational writing project, which won Arts Council funding in 2012.

We are so lucky to have such an innovative, multi-disciplinary and lively arts festival right here in the complex and beautiful city of Canterbury. So get moving: put your name down, get to these events. You will be delighted you did!
