In a new initiative for the 2013/14 academic year, single and joint honours students of English and American Literature taking the year-long compulsory Stage 1 module EN333: Romanticism and Critical Theory will be given the opportunity to attend a series of film screenings to complement and contextualise the texts they are studying on the module. The series is designed to encourage students to think more creatively across genres and disciplines, to show the wider connections of romanticism and theory with contemporary culture, and to allow students more opportunities to interact with their peers on a social as well as an academic basis.
Students will be supplied with a complete list of screening dates and times at the introductory lecture at the start of the course. This will include an introduction to each film highlighting intersections with the content of the module and the ways each film presents an interpretation of historical events or Romantic-period writers. Some upcoming screenings include Marie Antoinette, Amazing Grace, Pandaemonium, Spellbound and The Monk.
The School is very excited to be able to offer these screenings to our students and feel it will bring another dimension to what is already a fascinating and well-received module.
