Professor Wendy Parkins joins the school from her previous position in the Department of English at the University of Otago, New Zealand. She has published widely on topics relating to gender and modernity in Victorian literature, most notably her book, Mobility and Modernity in Women’s Novels, 1850s-1930s (2009). Wendy’s most recent book Jane Morris: The Burden of History, is to be published next month by Edinburgh University Press.
During her time here Wendy hopes to help to establish a new research centre in Victorian Literature in the school with plans including hosting a major Victorian Studies conference on campus in 2014.
