Undergraduate trip to New York

The School of English took 15 students to New York last week to experience the city’s arts and cultures first-hand. Students braved the cold and rain to tour the Lower East Side and Harlem, gaining a special insight into the American literature they have studied for their degrees. They also took full advantage of the city’s unparalleled collections of modernist painting, with visits to the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim and the Whitney, considering how American poetry developed in relation to the visual arts. The trip was undertaken alongside the School of Arts, allowing students of film and literature to share their responses and discover shared interests. We were delighted to be able to subsidize this trip and make it affordable for our students. We look forward to another bite of the Big Apple next year!
