Patricia Debney has been successful in her application for a grant from the Arts Council for £9,500 to fund ‘Wise Words’, a project which will run alongside the Canterbury Festival and the Laureate Scheme. It will put four of our Creative Writing postgrads into the community, giving them experience in teaching, performance, editing and events organisation. They will be working with four education postgrads from Christ Church, in pairs. A senior person from Education will work with Patricia to set up their initial training, and then the Laureate (Sarah Salway) will oversee them. The Canterbury Festival will administrate the grant. The aim is to bring under 16s and over 60s across East Kent into contact through existing community groups, in order to write experiences, reflect and exchange. Outcomes will include performances in local festivals, an anthology, and online essays.
