- Professor Irma Clots-Figueras took part in an important panel discussion around Covid 19 and its impact on Women. Learn more about the impact.
- The Office for National Statistics estimated that the UK economy grew by 2.1% in March 2021. Head of School, and Director of MaGHiC, Professor Miguel León-Ledesma broke this down for us.
- UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) teamed up with the University of Kent to present funded COVID-19-related research to local MP Sir Roger Gale. Find out more.
We launched new degrees and incentives
- We launched an exciting new dimension to our Development Economics MSc: enabling students to take advantage of research expertise on economic development in South Asia and the two-way exchange of students. Find out more about the opportunity and the launch.
- The School of Economics developed an exciting new undergraduate programme in Economics with Data Science, one of the first of its kind in the UK. Learn more about the programme.

Our work naturally centred on health and wellbeing
- As the furlough scheme came to an end in the UK and as other countries gradually reduce their Covid 19 support, Dr Olena Nizalova and Edward C.Norton’s research on involuntary job loss in Ukraine has some concerning findings. Find out here.
- The Economics Society hosted its third Annual Summit – the biggest and most impactful yet, which saw a collaboration for the first time with economics departments in universities across the UK. Find out more.
- Dr Adelina Gschwandtner collaborated with Sarah Jewell and Uma Kambhampati on a study examining the impact of two measures of lifestyle – the consumption of fruit and vegetables and taking exercise – on happiness. What were the findings?
