It was a real joy to welcome so many Kent Alumni back to our Canterbury Campus this weekend. Offering a chance to catch up with old friends, make new connections, and reminisce on our shared Kent experience, the annual Alumni BBQ was another rousing success.
We were joined by more than 100 alumni and guests – including some of our earliest graduates who studied at Kent in the 1960’s and were able to share stories with some of the newest members of our community. It was fantastic to see such a vast representation of almost 60 years of Kent history gathered together.
The event also allowed us a chance to hear your stories and learn what you’ve been up to in the time since you were a student. From those adding a stop in Canterbury as part of their round-the-world travels to new friendships that have been forged at previous reunions, there are so many reasons people make the journey back to Kent.
Entertainment was provided, as usual, by a light-hearted university-themed quiz, whilst a delicious BBQ buffet was prepared by the lovely team in K-Bar.
The following morning, groups were led on tours of the central campus where they had the opportunity to explore their old colleges, common rooms, and study spaces. They were also able to see the myriad ways in which the site has been developed, from new and extended buildings to the world-class facilities that have been invested in – including the Kennedy Wong Moot Court.
Also on campus over the weekend were a group of former Kent footballers who had gathered for their annual reunion organised by Mike Wilkins MBE. They enjoyed a competitive kick-about followed by a presentation from Mike and dinner in Dolche Vita.
We’re now looking ahead to our 60th anniversary celebration, which will take place this time next year. We hope lots of you will join us to mark this significant milestone. More details will be available soon!
