Alumni recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours

Members of the University of Kent community have been recognised in the King’s 2024 Birthday Honours List.

Those honoured include Kent alumni with honorary degrees:

  • Tracey Karima Emin CBE (Honorary Doctor of Letters, 2007) was appointed a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to Art.
  • The Rt Hon Terence Michael Elkan Barnet Etherton KC (Honorary Doctor of Laws, 2018) was appointed Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire for services to LGBT Veterans.

Several University alumni have also been recognised, including:

  • Tab Ahmad (BA Accounting and Economics, 1984), who was awarded a CBE for services to Inclusive Access to Employment for Neurodivergent and Disabled Young People.
  • Tina Janet Lovey (BSc Social Science, 2004) who was awarded a CBE for services to Children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
  • Tariq Mahmood (Pcert Supplementary Prescribing, 2007) who was awarded an MBE for services to charity and to Interfaith Relations. He is the Founder of Feed the Needy and Vice Chair of Havering Inter Faith Forum.
  • Dr Amrik Singh Mahal (BSc Chemistry, 1985 and PhD Chemistry, 1988) who was awarded a BEM for services to Science and the Covid-19 Response.
