The Centre for American Studies will host its annual ‘Bolt Lecture’ on Thursday 23 January 2014. The lecture is held in honour of Professor Christine Bolt and her husband, Ian, both of whom were enthusiastic supporters of American Studies at Kent.
This year we are delighted to welcome Professor Serge Durflinger from the University of Ottawa who will be discussing commemoration, the First World War and popular memory in a lecture entitled Remembering the First World War the Canadian Way. The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception and buffet for current students, staff and alumni. If you would like to attend, please register online for the event by Thursday 9 January 2014.
In memory of Christine Bolt’s contribution to American Studies at Kent, Ian established the Bolt scholarship at Kent in 2006. It has so far helped 12 Kent students to achieve their dreams and make a significant contribution to research in their fields. The scholarship provides £10,000 in funding for postgraduate students to carry out a sustained period of research in the United States. This year’s Bolt scholar is Aoife Fitzgerald, who is a final year PhD student. You can read more about Aoife and her work here.
