Earlier this month we were lucky enough to have Kent alumna and BBC Radio1Xtra’s Fee Mak (French And Business Administration, 2019) return to campus and deliver a masterclass in broadcasting for young women aged 14-18.
Participants were asked to submit a 30-second video explaining why they wanted to take part, and six were selected from across Kent. The masterclass took in aspects of interviewing, creating links, and networking in the industry in our Kent CSRFM radio studios.
Anna, who has applied to study Law at Kent this autumn, loved the opportunity to meet Fee and left inspired saying: “that helped build my confidence and care less what other people think.”
As she shared her skills Fee told us “I feel like it’s important to share the wisdom that I have learned throughout my journey to these young women because they might have a spark, but not know who to talk to, where to go.”
Fee started her presenting career at the student station, where she had weekly slot showcasing the best up and coming new talent – including early music from now established acts Ramz and Zone2.
Over Christmas 2019, she hosted Drivetime on BBC Radio 1 after being selected through their Presenter search, which led her to a month of Early Breakfast on Radio 1 alongside daytime cover shows. Shortly after she made her debut on BBC 1Xtra, where she now presents the Sunday morning show.
