Kyrah Gray scores first sketch show with Comedy Central

Kyrah Gray (Drama and Theatre, 2019) is continuing to build on her success in the world of comedy with her first sketch show released this autumn on Comedy Central’s digital channels.

The eight part series Dating Horror Stories blends humour and social commentary on modern dating, with each episode revolving around her experiences of dating as a single Black woman. Celebrity cameos include Munya Chawawa, Kiell Smith-Bynoe, and Ola Labib.

On the series Kyrah says: “We’ve created something that we’re all super proud of that can hopefully give my dating comrades a little lift. Hang in there, guys! Don’t take it too seriously – just send it to your situationship and laugh a little!”

Kyrah started her career at Kent, where she performed her debut comedy set. After graduation she was signed to Off The Kerb and her rise on the comedy circuit in the years since has been impactful, having secured impressive gigs supporting Judi Love, Romesh Ranganathan, and Russell Kane. In 2022 she even graced the prestigious O2 Arena stage as part of Mo Gilligan’s Black British Takeover.

Beyond live performances, Kyrah has a huge online presence and has starred in Netflix’s YouTube sketch ‘What Would You Do?’ with Harry Pinero. Her skilful comedic voice has also landed her a seat in the writer’s room for hit shows Bad Education and Rosie Jones’ Out Of Order.

Head of the School or Arts Dr Oliver Double previously interviewed Kyrah for his podcast, Proper Job Gradcast, where they spoke about getting started in stand up. Discussing her ascent, Olly said: “I first saw Kyrah perform in a very funny comedy sketch that was part of an assessment at the end of her first year. It was very clear that she was a gifted comic performer. In her third year, I taught her on our stand-up comedy module and again, she just aced it, getting consistently big laughs. I’m so proud of her!”.
