Become a Career Mentor for Kent Students

Our Career Mentoring Scheme is now successfully up and running and we need your help in order to support more students…

The scheme offers current students the opportunity to learn from you – our alumni – who have extensive experience, knowledge, and insights to share. The journey allows mentees to explore career options, understand the differences between professional and academic environments, and gain a greater understanding of how to use their degree after graduation.

To become a mentor, please register to create a profile on the Kent Community Builder – which functions like a mini LinkedIn – and allows current students to reach out and connect with you. The nature and duration of mentoring is completely flexible to fit your needs and can be organised virtually or face-to-face.

Mentoring is not only valuable to the mentees, there are countless benefits for mentors as well:

  • Mentors report increased personal satisfaction and professional success from investing in the future of their industry
  • Develop your own skills in communication, rapport-building, and relationship management
  • Expand your network
  • Help future Kent alumni prepare for their start in the working world!

If you have any further questions about the scheme, please contact our Career Mentoring Officer Irene Omiuni at I.Omiunu@kent.ac.uk for more information.

Hear from our current mentors

I have supported students on a 1-to-1 basis, providing feedback on their CV’s, advice for personal statements, and pointing them into directions for further opportunities and experiences… It’s always a positive feeling when you know you’ve helped someone else and it has been beneficial for my own learning.

Katy Aazem (Forensic Psychology, 2020) Educational Psychologist

I was lucky enough to have a mentor at the Kent Law School whilst I was a student, which really helped me with my career and gave me so many opportunities – including work placements and job interviews. I really want to give back and help too! I have now had a few mentees through the Kent Law School mentoring initiative and I have enjoyed helping students and getting to know them.
