Kent Giving Week 2023: How you can get involved

Raising £25,000 to fund 5,000 meals for students facing extreme hardship

A recent survey of UK students found a monthly shortfall of £439 between the average student’s maintenance loan and living costs with 10% of students recorded having used a food bank in the last academic year and 37% said the cost-of-living crisis might prevent them from continuing their studies altogether.

It is against this backdrop that Kent Giving Week 2023 will be supporting our student community by raising £25,000 to provide 5,000 meals for individuals who need them most.

From 20 – 24 March 2023, there will be a vibrant and varied schedule of events and activities to help us reach our fundraising target including a ‘5K Your Way’ sponsored walk, a cooking demonstration and the opportunity to buy our very own ‘Meals Under £5’ cookbook.  There will be plenty of ways to get involved to help us provide meals to students facing serious financial hardship:

  1. Send us a recipe. We would love you to submit your favourite budget meals for us to share in the ‘Meals Under £5’ cookbook, from which all proceeds will go towards our goal. Please share your recipe with us HERE.
  2. Walk or Run 5km. Join us in signing up for ‘5k Your Way’, a sponsored 5km walk or run to help raise funds for student hardship. You can do this wherever or whenever suits you best, or if you would like to join with others then you can come to 5k Your Way Central on campus.
  3. Become a UniKent Fundraiser! If you have a passion for fundraising, we would love for you to join our fabulous team of volunteer fundraisers and work with us to support life-changing projects at the University. If you are interested please email giving@kent.ac.uk.
  4. Buy a student a meal. Please donate HERE

Keep your eyes peeled for the exciting programme of events that will take place during Kent Giving Week!
