Kent alumni, Cameron and Josephine, met at a Welcome Week Maths buffet and have now set a date for their wedding, nine years and a day after they met. What a story!
What course did you both do and how did you meet?
We both studied Mathematics, with a Year in Industry between 2nd and 3rd year. We met on the Monday of Freshers week, during a SMSAS introduction event while picking at the buffet table in the Pavilion.
What were date nights like in Canterbury?
As students, few and far between! Putting effort into a home cooked meal goes a long way. But some recommendations for a quiet meal/drink out would be A La Turka, Café De Solei, Chocolate Café, and Chapman’s.
What have you both done since graduating, and how did you get there?
I am a Lead Automation Developer at Lean Consulting, a boutique consulting firm, and Josephine is a Senior Sales Operations Analyst at Bark, a tech start-up.
We were both lucky enough to find jobs out of university before our graduation. I found my current company and have been with them ever since, but Josephine has a slightly more interesting path. She started off in presales at a telecoms company before becoming interested in Sales Operations, and has now been in that line of work for a few different companies.
What were the best parts about studying at Kent?
The people you meet for sure. We obviously met each other, but we also met many life long friends who we still meet up with regularly. The University of Kent especially has a very diverse demographic of people that study there, so you’re able to expose yourself to people with completely different experiences to your own.
What advice would you give to new students looking to get the most out of University?
Put yourself out there and get out of your comfort zone. Join societies that you find interesting, and just try new things in general.
When’s the wedding?!
23rd September 2023, 9 years and 1 day after we very first met.
