University of Kent alumna Lucy Danser (Keynes 2006, Drama) has created a one woman play inspired by her study abroad experience at Indiana University in Bloomington.
Whilst on exchange in the US, Lucy took a class in ‘Ensemble Created Scripts’, which challenged students to base their monologues on the theme of hunting: hunting for identity, stalking, hunting game or hunting for someone lost.
After meeting Rachael Jones, owner of Bloomington coffee house and music venue Rachael’s Café, Lucy decided to base her monologue on the ‘hunt for gender’. This monologue has now blossomed into a one woman play, which is set to premier at London’s Old Red Lion Theatre on 25 February 2014. Tickets can be purchased at the Rachael’s Cafe Play Website.
Dr Grant Pooke, Acting Faculty Director of Internationalisation, Humanities, said: “A London premiere is an outstanding achievement. It is this kind of outcome which underlines the transformative and affirming value of studying abroad which is such a central part of academic life at the University of Kent. All credit to Lucy for the drive, ability and ambition in bringing this creative project to completion.”
