Apprentice Case Study: Chartered Management at Kent

Adam Grainger, Reception Manager at Kent Sport, speaks about his degree apprenticeship

Recently Loretta Izod, Employee Apprenticeship Manager at Kent, spoke to Adam about how his apprenticeship has supported his career and self-development.

After completing the Foundations of Management course, delivered by the Learning & Organisational Development team at Kent, Adam felt inspired to further his learning.  He had not explored the potential apprenticeships available to him before, but soon found the Chartered Manager (Degree) apprenticeship provided by CHDA and Kent Business School.

‘I have a passion for learning and I’m always looking to improve my skills & knowledge’

Adam is able to use his passion for learning to develop himself and his career.  Working towards the end goal of obtaining a degree in Management inspires him, and the ‘vast yet interesting’ course content is perfectly suited to his current role.  Given the varied types of learning required in this apprenticeship – including watching lectures, participating in discussions, taking rests and writing assignments – apprentices like Adam are able to apply their academic growth to their jobs.

Adam has received invaluable support from the team at the University of Kent.

Emma Kelly has been a great help to me pre & post start date, it has been nice to interact with someone who not only knows the ins and outs of the Apprenticeship Scheme, but is undertaking the same course as me.

As an apprentice, Adam has direct contact with the team at CHDA, especially Emma Kelly.  Using her experience of working with apprentices, Adam has found her support invaluable.
